Economics. Tell me what it’s good for.

We all use economic calculation every day and for every decision we make. We just don’t realize it. Shall I have the SuperSonic Cheeseburger or a foot long chili-cheese coney? We add up the enjoyment of the food, factor in the hunger stopping effects, consider calories (maybe), and the effect of Sonic chili on my gastrointestinal tract and finally come to the conclusion that a cheeseburger is a far better choice. Economic calculation is not simply limited to matters of money, but of any conscious and purposeful human behavior.

I’m not sure if that math in the comic makes any sense. I sure couldn’t follow it. But in the end people only ever look at the graphs anyway.

In other news I notice how certain wings of the political spectrum constantly bemoan both suburban sprawl and the inequality of wealth. I wonder what their answer is to this problem. If we are all to be make equal amounts and live in equal homes without having suburban sprawl. Wait. Didn’t they try that somewhere once?

Oh that’s right. The Soviets tried it. I dunno about you but those are some pretty swank pads. Just about right for the proletariat.

logical extreme

“Taking something illogical to a logical extreme is the definition of insanity” – a physicist.  I understand many comic fans are nerdy type who like to argue both logical and illogical things. And the beautiful thing is, so do I! you have a friend in this world guy who talks about the downsides of invisibility, the harangue of downsides to superhuman strength, the waxing poetic about the power of flight… I’m right there with you.

Because in the end, our imaginations are indeed what keeps us sane.

Career Goals

Career advice from someone who has reached the pinnacle of their career by being a counselor at a high school is somewhat silly. Not that anyone knows what they’re going to do in high school anyhow. I’m sure the counselors have a little wall of fame behind their desk, students who went on to great success despite their esteemed advice. I’m not knocking career counselors… Well maybe I am. But with the constant changes taking place in the workforce I don’t think there are any sure win options for them to recommend. ‘Cept maybe hoarding precious metals and living in the mountains, anxiously waiting the fall of our present government.

Sorry about the few days without a post. I’ve been off raping villages and pillaging villagers. I overthrew two small governments this weekend. I’m sure you’ll forgive me.

Forgive me

… for I have sinned, it has been five days since my last posting. Instead of Hail Marys, I’ll just post another comic and discuss how difficult operation really was.

It wasn’t the hardest game in the world, but probably the most intense for a kid. Literally, if you messed up getting that funny bone out you KILLED the guy. I don’t know about you, but I was scarred for life. Now I won’t even think of extracting the breadbasket of an unseuspecting stranger with a red nose.

Targeted advertising is highly amusing on social networking sites, or even on the internet in general as the amount of information about your web habits grow. Add a quote from a favorite author on facebook, suddenly you’ll have ads that say, “You like <favorite author> books? You’ll love _____.” But it is even more amusing when they fail, like when the Tulsa Police Department was firing 10% of the police force from budget cuts yet there were ads for “Police officers needed in Tulsa!”

In other news the Phoenix Suns will be wearing “Los Suns” on their jerseys today.

And a kid got tasered at at Phillies game. While I think tasering by police might have been a little extreme, I do kind of like the idea of MLB banning him and his family from attending any MLB event for the remainder of his life. It’s more effective in preventing such behavior in the future.
