If you don’t believe me…

con-gullible

Gullible is in the dictionary.  This little “trick” and its ilk are quite irritating. If someone were to say “Gullible is not in the dictionary.” You would think, “Well that is strange, I should look it up to verify the claims of my friend, because I don’t think they are a liar, so they have apparently been duped and I must remedy this by showing them that it is in the dictionary.” If someone said your house was on fire, you should probably check and not laugh it off. All it really does is breed mistrust. If you have the friend that pulls these sorts of tricks, try replying with, “I’m sorry. I trusted you and didn’t think you were out to mock me. Sorry, I’ve learned you are not trustworthy and I should take all your statements as possible lies.” It is only natural to check the claims of others. Checking them does not mean you believe, it usually means that you are in fact, not gullible because you verify things before you place any belief in them.

On a related note, it is enjoyable to fact check chain emails. Especially the political ones.

This comic comes from Calamaties of Nature but is a guest comic for that strip written by the creator of Moe.
