Just a little lonely

mof-thoreau

Thoreau was a little bit nutty. I’ve read significant portions of Walden, but I’m afraid I can’t say I’ve read it all. I struggle with literature. I also sometimes struggle with three paragraphs on how green the leaves on a particular tree just off to the left of the path may be.

As a big fan of nature and conservation I can see a place for Thoreau. If he wasn’t out there to inspire hippies, then we wouldn’t have the conflict that will hopefully lead to an appropriate allocation of resources. Just hope The Man doesn’t step in on one side or the other and force things to be one way or the other. That’s the trouble with laws, you can’t have something 50/50 or even 90/10. It is one way or the other.

So while being far from an expert at Thoreau, I’ll say that some may take his ideas of natural living and use them to try to force everyone to that same basic level. Of course they would use the monopoly of force known as the government to do so. My reply to that is to use a little dose of Civil Disobedience.
